Fat Dads took their sweet time: Their debut album Fat & Furious is here

After three years of making music 4th of April 2025 will mark the day when Fat Dads finally give the fans what they want: a debut album filled with twelve songs full of classic Fat Dads vibes. Fat & Furious is your typical non-typical indie rock pop/early 00’s garage rock album, with hefty drums, soulful vocals, buoyant vocals and groovy guitar sounds. Fat Dads have made themselves a name, all without industry contacts or management. With the support of Louis Tomlinson fans, the band started trending under the hashtag #FatDadsAFHF2023, as many Louies wanted to see the band perform at Louis Tomlinson’s Away From Home Festival. The support was unwavering even before that, with their debut EP being sold out within two days after release. ‘Girlfriend’, their fifth single, landed the iTunes top 20 in 2023 on its release day. Having played Kendal Calling in the same year, the band got immense feedback from their fans as they filled the tent to the brim and beyond. On their own tour last year Fat Dads played numerous sold-out shows, once again a sign of the strong fanbase.

‘Dirty Levi’s’ sets the tone with guitar-heavy sounds and loud drums, making it the perfect album opener. Followed by ‘Jenny’, a song that’s been released in 2023 and is a bit softer in sound and use of instruments, although having an absolute terrific and smashing finale. Their latest release ‘Velvet Thunder’ is a fun song about spending time with someone, doing unproductive things. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ fans might have already detected the reference to the TV series in the song title, but latest with the lyric “So we can go back to mine sometime / Get high and watch ’99 / There’s nowhere else I’d rather be” the connection is clear. The album goes on with ‘One More Night’, followed by ‘Girlfriend’, a song that’s been released in April 2023, before going on to ‘You Don’t Like Me Anymore’. The song ‘Wandering Blind’ is their first released feature with Delagrave, who perfectly complements the song with her rich and powerful voice, giving the song a country vibe, especially towards the end. Being accompanied by groovy guitar sounds from Michael Smith and Steven Dixon, as well as the strong swell of drums from Andy Graham, setting in just as Delagrave is starting to sing her part of the song which is a vocally powerful version of the lyrics “If I could give to you all I have / Share it all and ask for nothing back / Well I hope someday I might experience love at first sight / ‘Cause up ‘till now I’ve been wandering blind”. Delagrave will be supporting Fat Dads on their show in Carlisle, England of their UK tour so fans can be excited to hopefully hear this tune live. The next track ‘Taking Our Sweet Time’ is an oldie for Fat Dad fans, having been around since 2022, and as it seems a fan favourite with it being the most streamed song on Spotify. In the beginning of ‘Love Somebody’ the band sings about how specific songs might be making more money and what is important to be played on radio, before fully starting their own “cheesy love song”. Fat Dads are just like the guys from next door, so no wonder they wrote a song with another TV series reference. The lyrics “I’ll be the man that I know that I can / I’ll be your / I’ll be your Jim if you’ll be my Pam” references the comedy series “The Office”. The song is yet again full of amazing guitar riffs, a strong bass from Alex Whittaker as well as great vocals from Tyee Wright. Next up is ‘Honey’ which got released last year, followed by the new tunes ‘Tangerine’ and ‘Outcame The Sunshine’.

The five-piece band from Carlisle continue to have a strong fan base with their DIY style and their catchy tunes. With their down to earth mentality and their tight bond to fans the band are just like the guys from next door: chilled, cheeky and packed with banter, with their joking way to make fun of themselves and their self-effacing humour. That’s what makes them so likeable in the first place. When this down to earth wy of going about life is paired with indie rock that reminds of the sounds of RATS and The Strokes well the outcome can simply be enjoyable.
