Bottlemoth releases new single 'Landslides (people can change)'

“Sometimes change is expected, and sometimes it’s a surprise. It can be terrifying, though more often than not change can be necessary.” This is what indie-folk band Bottlemoths second single ‘Landslides (people can change)’ explores.

Bottlemoth, consisting of five members, was formed in January of this year (2024). The members previously played together in the band Bridges – with which they got to take stage at Glastonbury and open for The Slow Readers Club, to mention a few – but now they have reassembled as the quintet we know as Bottlemoth. With influences from Manchester Orchestra, The Gaslight Anthem, The Wonder Years and Frightened Rabbit Bottlemoth brings a heartfelt and atmospheric sound that captures the listener.

‘Landslides (people can change)’ is a song about starting over, returning home and tackling the big moments of change. The lyricist and singer Ethan Proctor says “Sometimes change is expected, and sometimes it’s a surprise. It can be terrifying, though more often than not change can be necessary. The lyrics further underscores this idea that change is important in one’s personal evolution. Even though it may be scary in the moment, change is vital when you’re growing as a person – especially after hardships.

Sonically, ‘Landslides (people can change)’, fits perfectly in the indie-folk sphere. Not only does it balance melancholy and hope perfectly in the lyrics but also in the instrumentals. Going from slower and more acoustic parts and building up beautifully in a way that fills the listener with hope. This buildup also perfectly mirrors the theme of change – going from gentle to grand while keeping an encouraging feel. Because change nothing to be scared of.

With this song Bottlemoth skilfully conveys the importance of accepting change. Both with lyrics and instrumentals they tell the listener that dwelling on the past will do no good. Standing up and embracing change, no matter how terrifying it might be, majorly contributes to personal growth – a growth that must happen one way or another.

‘Landslides (people can change)’ is the second single of Bottlemoths upcoming debut album ‘Even us ghosts’. The album will be released on October 17th 2024 so be sure not to miss it.
