Boy Bleach Is Out With The New Single 'Sun Cream'

Up-and-coming East London quintet Boy Bleach left us with an electrifying summer single ‘Sun Cream’ on Friday 16th of August.

Producing a unique grunge sound with an uneasy dark feel between hard-hitting lyrics and a light  catchy beat, the English alternative rock band have put together an eccentric sound for listeners that is well worth investing in.

The genre of Boy Bleach is far from fitting in  a standalone category. The East London band confidently take combinations of alternative rock mixed with electro glam punk, along with strands of fuse indie-rock and new wave synth-pop. Musical inspirations behind their style stem from the iconic Idles, Garbage, and Gorillaz. Band members consist of a double set of brothers  Jimi and Lou, and Nick and James, along with their long-term best friend JJ.

Boy Bleach have a consistent pattern in preaching about social issues across their discography, such as going against toxic stereotypes of masculinity in their 2023 single ‘Perfect Guy’ to giving an honest rundown of the mundane realities living in the south in their single ‘England’, released in June 2024. However, their relatable and honest lyricism doesn’t stop there. ‘Sun Cream’ discusses the hard realities of life as a young adult, from financial struggles in the lyrics “I’ve only got a tenner to my name” to the social frustrations of being misunderstood in young romance, and getting turned down after the first date. Other hard social issues such as misuse of illegal substances are discussed toward the end of the song, “Doing a line too many lost me merit like a plagiarist” being suggested as a result of unsuccessful relationships.

Social frustrations in relationships and navigating the challenges in your twenties is mixed between the calm, catchy synth-led rhythm, but with segments of harder drums and screaming lyrics unexpectedly throughout the song. Implying the extreme ups and downs throughout adulthood.

What’s next for Boy Bleach?

Having previously  supported OnlyThePoets, The Band Camino, and Yungblud across Europe, the punk-rock band are set to headline their own exciting  UK & Europe tour in November 2024, kicking off in London, and closing in Prague.
