‘Funeral’ by SOAP

London based pop punk four-piece SOAP have finally come out with their long-awaited single ‘Funeral’ and it’s definitely been worth the wait.

SOAP, previously known as The Tyne, have been teasing the track since September 2023, picking up many eager listeners along the way whilst supporting Busted on their UK arena tour.

‘Funeral’ presents an electric blend of ripping guitars, punchy vocals and a catchy chorus that draws you in from the start. Beginning with raw vocals by lead singer Ryan Lofthouse, the track dives straight in to the sparky chorus that shows off their talent in creating catchy hooks. Strong bass lines from Cooper Stout drives the track’s pop-punk rhythm, producing a flawless harmony between melody and intensity.

Their unique musical style takes influences from Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance, but with a modern spin attracting fans of 5 Seconds of Summer, New Hope Club and The Vamps.

Lyrically, ‘Funeral’ offers beautiful storytelling about transformation and self-discovery. The line “I don’t wanna die even if it’s you” alludes to a deeper meaning of the death of an old version of yourself and reluctance to begin anew. SOAP’s personal resonance with new beginnings is rooted within the changing of their own band name from ‘The Tyne’ to ‘SOAP’, in which the band have previously opened up about the struggles in finding their new sound and identity under their new name. ‘Funeral’ therefore acts as a shoulder to lean on for the four-piece as they enter a pivotal new era.
